
Maureen Stewart has 15 years of experience working in the field of mass media and media relations. She also has worked in key public relations, development and outreach positions. She previously worked at the NBC affiliate KPLC TV 7 in Lake Charles, Louisiana where she served as co-host and anchor for the morning show “Louisiana Today”. She also worked as a field reporter for the evening news program. Her broadcast experience also includes work in several FM radio stations as on-air talent.
Ms. Stewart also served as a Marketing coordinator and in management for the banking industry. She coordinated market research and worked with the advertising agency to develop campaigns for First Federal Savings and Loan of Lake Charles, LA. Also, a management position with an in-store branch of Premier Bank in Lake Charles required sales and marketing experience and included the design and implementation of marketing campaigns for financial products offered by the bank.
She served in a marketing position for the South Carolina Department of Agriculture where she worked with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture and the South Carolina Pork Board to promote pork for the South Carolina Pork industry. While there, she worked at a state and national level to disseminate information on the “Pork The Other White Meat” campaign with the American Meat Board in Chicago, IL and the National Pork Producer’s Council in DesMoines, IA. Her work involved a full-time media schedule for the industry. She also wrote feature articles for news and trade publications.
Program Coordinator for the Texas Alliance for Science, Technology and Mathematics Education at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX included responsibilities of public, corporate and state agency relations; development; membership drive and relations; editor of the alliance newsletter; website management; and grant writing and implementation. Ms. Stewart also assisted with the duties of serving on the Texas Department of Education’s “informal science” committee.
Ms. Stewart served as Director of Public Relations for US Unwired, Inc., a Sprint PCS affiliate in Lake Charles. Her duties included a wealth of experience in media relations, marketing campaigns, newsletter writing and editing, press releases, event planning, and market launches. She was the official spokesperson for the company. She was also involved in the Initial Public Offering (IPO) planning for the Sprint PCS Affiliate. She served on the IPO planning committee which included media relations, writing the IPO plan and the US Unwired IPO launch on the NASDAQ stock exchange.
Additional experience includes working with the American Hereford Association in Kansas City, MO with the promotion of the Hereford cattle and the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association as their spokesperson for beef in Louisiana. She also worked as Outreach Coordinator for Denison & Associates, Inc. on the BRGL Grant and Loan Program and the Louisiana Oil and Gas Collaborative (LOGIC) Projects. Her work includes outreach with potential participants, employers, public agencies, and media.
Ms. Stewart holds a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She has also completed graduate studies in the field of education and holds a certification in Special Education Mild Moderate 1st through 12th grades with the state of Louisiana.
