Dr. Denison is currently involved in various disaster recovery collaborations with multiple agencies in the 10 parish area of Southwest and South Central Louisiana.
She developed the proposals and grant projects and is currently in the implementation phase of the LOGIC Workforce
Training Program and the Louisiana Business Recovery Grant and Loan Program, in conjunction with the Louisiana Economic
Development, the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the Louisiana Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit, and
the Louisiana Recovery Authority.
Dr. Denison was employed by FEMA ESF-14 as part of the Louisiana Long-Term Community Recovery team assigned to southwest Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Rita.
She worked as community outreach specialist, external affairs liaison, and as a Community Planner and project developer
for the education, health, and human services sectors. She assisted with disaster recovery planning and development for
parish and regional economic and workforce development, coastal restoration, transportation, environmental/agriculture,
housing/community development, and public safety recovery projects.
Dr. Denison previously worked as the director for project development and grant management for Trestle
Corporation based in California and in Florida, and as a consultant for Telehealth and Telemedicine issues with the
Hawaii Health Systems Corporation and University Medical School in Hawaii.
Dr. Denison has developed successful projects in many states including Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, California, Hawaii, Alabama,
Florida, Maine, Kentucky, and others. While working in other state projects, Dr. Denison remained living in Louisiana.
Before that, she worked extensively in the Southwest Louisiana health care and human services field in the telehealth/distance medicine, wellness/health initiatives, proposal writing, financial/fiscal administration, grant program management, public/media relations, and distance education areas. Dr. Denison worked for the LSU Agricultural Center in Baton Rouge as a Rural Health and Agri-Ability Program Specialist for farmers and Agriculture families with special focus on assisting farm families with health problems and dealing with disabilities and A griculture-related accidents.
To date, Dr. Denison and her teams have successfully developed projects with the following federal and state agencies: U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Education, Army Corp of Engineers, Department of Homeland Security/ Federal Emergency Management Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, Small Business Administration, Louisiana Department of Agriculture, Louisiana Department of Economic Development, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Louisiana Division of Administration, Louisiana Department of Education, Louisiana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and Department of Environmental Quality, etc.
Dr. Denison has worked with mass media in her involvement with numerous projects. She has served as an expert in interviews on news talk shows, news feature stories and articles. She has planned numerous media events and press conferences, including the coverage surrounding Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco’s delivery of the first round of the Business Recovery Grant and Loan Program (BRGL) grant checks to Southwest Louisiana businesses affected by the 2005 hurricane Rita.
Born and raised in rural Southwest Louisiana, Dr. Denison has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Agriculture Business and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Additionally, she has a Master of Science degree in vocational/adult/workforce education (M.S.) from the Louisiana State University (LSU) College of Agriculture, and a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in vocational/adult education, training and workforce development from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
